Directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett had wanted to cast their Ready or Not star Samara Weaving in the fifth Scream movie, which was released earlier this year. They had conversations with Weaving about getting her into the movie. They just couldn’t work out the schedule. But now they have a second chance. Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett are back at the helm for Scream 6, which is currently filming in Montreal (standing in for the story’s setting of New York City), and our friends at Bloody Disgusting report that Weaving has officially been cast in the film!

Also joining the cast of Scream 6 is Tony Revolori, who played Flash Thompson in the recent Spider-Man movies (Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man: Far from Home, Spider-Man: No Way Home).

Scream 6 has been written by the previous movie’s screenwriters, James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick. This one will show us what happens when

the four survivors of the Ghostface killings leave Woodsboro behind and start a fresh chapter.

Those four survivors are the Scream 2022 characters played by returning stars Melissa Barrera (as Samantha Carpenter), Jasmin Savoy Brown (as Mindy Meeks-Martin), Mason Gooding (as Mindy’s brother Chad Meeks-Martin), and Jenna Ortega (as Sam’s sister Tara Carpenter). Franchise regular Courteney Cox is reprising the role of Gale Weathers. Dermot Mulroney, Jack Champion, Liana Liberato, Devyn Nekoda, Josh Segarra, and Henry Czerny have also been cast in unspecified roles. At this point, we don’t know if Neve Campbell is back at Sidney Prescott or not. She has said she wouldn’t be back, but rumors persist. And Hayden Panettiere is back as her Scream 4 character Kirby Reed.

Vanderbilt is producing Scream VI with Paul Neinstein and William Sherak for Project X Entertainment. Original Scream screenwriter Kevin Willamson serves as executive producer alongside Chad Villella, Ron Lynch, Cathy Konrad, Marianne Maddalena, and Spyglass’s Gary Barber and Peter Oillataguerre.

I’m a big fan of Weaving, so I’m very glad to hear that she’ll be re-teaming with Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett for Scream 6. Revolori is a good addition to the cast as well. What do you think of this casting news? Let us know by leaving a comment below.

Scream 6 is scheduled to reach theatres on March 31, 2023..
