Sebastian Stan wants to be Karyn Kusama’s Dracula

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Sebastian Stan is best known for playing Bucky Barnes, a.k.a. The Winter Soldier, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and some may be surprised to find out that the actor who plays that troubled American hero didn't officially become an American citizen until he was around 20 years old. Stan was born in Romania, and spent the first eight years of his life there before moving to Vienna, Austria. He then moved to the states when he was twelve.

Someone else from Romania, the Transylvania region of the country, is iconic horror character Dracula – and during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Stan revealed that he has put his name in the mix to play Dracula in an upcoming Blumhouse production.

It was announced last month that director Karyn Kusama is re-teaming with her THE INVITATION and DESTROYER screenwriters Matt Manfredi and Phil Hay to craft an untitled Dracula project for Blumhouse. All that is known about the Dracula story they are putting together is that it takes place in modern day.

Stan was in the cast of Kusama's DESTROYER, and when it was mentioned during his chat with The Hollywood Reporter he said,

Thank you for mentioning that movie. I love that movie, I love her and I had such a great time on it. I would love to keep finding projects with her — projects that kind of push you in a different direction."

His desire to continue working with Kusama includes wanting in on her Dracula movie:

I already emailed her about that. I said, “You know I’m from Romania, right?” and she goes, “Yes, yes, it’s very early — and there’s a pandemic. Hopefully, we’ll see you in four years.” (Laughs.)

I have become a fan of Stan primarily through watching him play Bucky in Marvel movies and watching him give interviews. If he wants to play his bloodsucking countryman, I'm all for it.
