After keeping fans on pins and needles for weeks, Netflix has announced that Shadow and Bone will return for a second season!

Based on Leigh Bardugo’s “Grishaverse” novels – the Shadow and Bone trilogy and companion series Six of Crows – will consist of eight episodes. “I’m honored and thrilled to return to the Grishaverse and continue the stories of these endearing characters, particularly Milo” the goat, said showrunner Eric Heisserer. Yo, if anyone harms a single strand of hair on Milo's adorable body, I will throw hands. That goat and I have been through a lot together while watching the first season of Shadow and Bone. Between him and Sweet Tooth, Netflix is making me feel things for animal characters this year.

Shortly after the good word about the second season renewal spread across the internet like wildfire, the cast of Shadow and Bone appeared in a new video to say thanks and share their excitement.

Jessie Mei Li, Archie Renaux, Freddy Carter, Amita Suman, Kit Young, Ben Barnes, Danielle Galligan, and Calahan Skogman are all set to reprise their roles for the sophomore season. Additional characters and cast members are set to be announced at a later time.

“I’ve been writing in the Grishaverse for nearly ten years now, so I’m thrilled we get to keep this adventure going,” said Bardugo. “There are so many places we’ve barely gotten to visit, and I can’t wait to introduce our audience to more of the saints, soldiers, thugs, thieves, princes, and privateers who make this world so much fun to explore. It’s going to be real magic to see our brilliant, talented cast expand.”

Shadow and Bone had 55 million member accounts worldwide tuning in the four weeks after its April 23 premiere. I happen to have been one of those subscribers and would like to express my elation at the show getting another season. It's an exceptionally well-made show and plays host to a bunch of cool characters. The effects are on-point, and it's a lot darker than you'd expect. I'm eagerly awaiting the second season and hope that the show gets picked up again so we can see the entire story realized in live-action.

The first season of Netflix's Shadow and Bone is available to stream right now.
