I hope that you've got some money stashed away somewhere because the Devil has come to collect his due in the first full trailer for David Ayer's THE TAX COLLECTOR.
Directed and written by Ayer (BRIGHT, SUICIDE SQUAD), who co-produced the feature alongside Chris Long and Tyler Thompson, THE TAX COLLECTOR stars Shia LaBeouf, Bobby Soto, George Lopez, Lana Parrilla, and Elpidia Carrillo. In the film, David (Bobby Soto) and Creeper (Shia LaBeouf), are “tax collectors” for the crime lord Wizard, collecting his cut from the profits of local gangs’ illicit dealings. But when Wizard’s old rival returns to Los Angeles from Mexico, the business is upended, and David finds himself desperate to protect what matters more to him than anything else: his family.
After taking a fair amount of heat for his Netflix Original feature BRIGHT, starring Will Smith, Joel Edgerton, and Noomi Repace, Ayer looks to be getting back to his grittier roots for THE TAX COLLECTOR. As you can see from the trailer above, the film looks to present a complicated web of gang-related warfare, with LaBeouf's Creeper being presented as one of the actor's most hardened roles to date. With plenty of bullets, back-stabbing, and pendejos looking to stand their ground, could it be that THE TAX COLLECTOR will mark a return to form for the director of films like FURY and SUICIDE SQUAD? We're certainly excited to find out when THE TAX COLLECTOR is released in theaters and VOD on August 7, 2020.
