A few weeks back Sony Screen Gems pushed the release date of the upcoming preacher vs vampires flick PRIEST, starring Paul Bettany, Cam Gigandet, and Maggie Q (below) from August 2010 to January 2011 (read all about that move HERE).
Since then, it appears that the powers that be have decided that PRIEST should be in 3D, which is likely the reason for the latest release date shift, as Screen Gems has pushed the release of the film back once again, from January 14th to March 4th, 2011.
More time to convert the film to 3D seems like the only explanation, although it could be they expect it to be better than a ‘dump month’ release, though a film hitting theaters in early March isn’t the same as a film hitting theaters in early April (then again, ALICE IN WONDERLAND made a shitload of money over the same weekend, so go figure).
Briefly, Scott Stewart’s film goes a bit like this: A priest disobeys church law to track down the vampires who kidnapped his niece.
An extra 2 months of wait time to see the battle rage between Bettany the Priest and a buttload of vampires. In 3D. Yay… PRIEST hits theaters everywhere March 4, 2011.
