Denis Villeneuve's adaptation of Frank Herbert's "Dune" is easily my most anticipated film of the year, and Villeneuve has packed the sprawling sci-fi epic with quite the all-star cast, which includes Timothée Chalamet's (THE KING) as Paul Atreides, Rebecca Ferguson (DOCTOR SLEEP) as Lady Jessica, and Oscar Isaac (STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER) as Duke Leto Atreides. The film is sure to impress in the score department as well as Hans Zimmer is hard at work crafting something rather wild.

In an interview with Variety in which Hans Zimmer discussed scoring in the time of COVID-19, the composer dropped a few details about his score for DUNE, which he seems quite excited by. "Right now I’m in the middle of making these sounds," Zimmer said. "I just have these ideas, and it’s like this every day. I’m doing all these experiments, and I have no idea if any of them will ever really end up in the movie. But we are so dedicated, trying to do something different, to do solid and honorable work, and do justice to the book." As Zimmer has been in the game for well over three decades, he was asked whether or not it ever gets old; Surprisingly, Zimmer admitted, "Yeah, it does," but added his enthusiasm is rekindled when "something like DUNE comes along with somebody like Denis Villeneuve."

I’m driving everybody crazy on “Dune” because I’m so full of ideas. And it’s Denis, you know? He lets me be part of this world. It’s totally and utterly inspiring, and it’s great people I get to work with – scrap the word “work,” it’s great people I get to play with.

In addition to Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, and Oscar Isaac, DUNE also stars Stellan Skarsgard (THOR) as the villainous Baron Harkonnen, Dave Bautista (BLADE RUNNER 2049) as his sadistic nephew, Glossu "Beast" Rabban, Charlotte Rampling (RED SPARROW) as the Reverend Mother Mohiam, the emperor's truthsayer, Josh Brolin (AVENGERS: ENDGAME) as Gurney Halleck, a troubadour-swordsman, Javier Bardem (PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES) as Stilgar, the leader of the Fremen, Jason Momoa (AQUAMAN) as Duncan Idaho, a swordmaster in the house of Atreides, Zendaya (SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME) as Chani, a Fremen who becomes a love interest to Paul Atreides, and David Dastmalchian (ANT-MAN AND THE WASP) as Piter De Vries, a twisted Mentat. DUNE will be hitting theaters on December 18, 2020.
