After being introduced to The Adventures of Tintin at a young age, I devoured the stories just as quickly as I could lay my hands on them. My original collection of Tintin comics, barely holding together at this point, still occupies a place on honour on my bookshelves. Steven Spielberg has long been a fan of Tintin as well and originally scooped up the rights to make a Tintin movie in the mid-80s, but it would take a meeting with Peter Jackson decades later to finally get the ball rolling. Spielberg directed the first film, THE ADVENTURES OF TINTIN: SECRET OF THE UNICORN, and it was assumed that Peter Jackson would helm the second, but due the film not exactly setting the box-office on fire as well as the busy schedules of both men, the sequel has yet to materialize, leaving some to assume that it may never happen.
According to Steven Spielberg when he spoke with Premiere, THE ADVENTURES OF TINTIN 2 is apparently still in the works, but it may be at least three years before we see it, and that's the best case scenario.
Peter Jackson has to do the second part. Normally, if all goes well, he will soon start working on the script. As it takes two years of animation work on the film, for you, I would not expect to see it for about three years. But Peter will stick to it. Tintin is not dead!
I'm not about to hold my breath that THE ADVENTURES OF TINTIN 2 will actually happen, but as I quite enjoyed the pure entertainment of the first film, I'm gratified to know that the sequel hasn't been tossed in the bin. Said to be an adaptation of "The Seven Crystal Balls" and "Prisoners of the Sun," THE ADVENTURES OF TINTIN 2 would likely bring back Jamie Bell as Tintin and Andy Serkis as Captain Haddock, as well as Nick Frost and Simon Pegg as Thomson and Thompson, respectively. As close to seven years have passed since the release of the first film, I can only imagine that the sequel's motion-capture animation would be on another level should it move forward, perhaps even pushing past the uncanny valley criticisms that the first film faced.
