Folks looking forward to the release of The Batman won’t have to wait long to watch the film at home after it swoops into theaters. WarnerMedia CEO Jason Kilar has reconfirmed that The Batman will be uploaded to HBO Max for all subscribers on April 19, 2022. For those of you counting at home, that’s only 46 days after the film’s exclusive theatrical release on March 4, 2022.

Kilar doubled down on The Batman HBO Max release date while speaking on Vox’s Recode podcast.

“Think about when movies would show up on HBO, which is eight to nine months after theatrical premiere. The Batman is going to show up on day 46 on HBO Max,” Kilar said. “That is a huge change from where things were in 2018, 2017, 2016.”

The Batman‘s HBO Max release date falls in line with WarnerMedia’s strategy to release films on services “like HBO Max” at least 45 days after their theatrical release. Of course, this means that the studio is moving away from debuting tentpole content on a day-and-date basis. Rumors of the simultaneous release strategy not working out for WarnerMedia have been circulating throughout the year, with whispers suggesting that WB took a wicked bath by releasing several of its biggest films via HBO Max.

“I feel really, really good knowing that The Batman, and Black Adam, and The Flash, and Elvis, and a whole host of other movies, are literally going to be showing up on day 46 on HBO Max in a variety of territories all over the world,” Kilar said. “That is a very, very big change that I don’t think people appreciate, and I feel really good about it.”

The Batman, HBO Max, Robert Pattinson, Matt Reeves

In addition to talking about the studio’s release strategy for The Batman, Kilar revealed that The Flash and Black Adam would follow the same HBO Max release blueprint as Matt Reeves’ much-anticipated Batman film.

WarnerMedia’s new policy feels like it caters to all walks of moviegoers. There’s the theatrical release for those who crave the big-screen experience, and the HBO Max platform that keeps homebodies happy. I can’t wait to see The Batman on the silver screen in March, but you can bet your cape and cowl that I’ll enjoy it on HBO in April as well.

In addition to reconfirming Batman‘s HBO Max release, WarnerMedia has unmasked an epic trailer for the film that shows off tons of new footage. Not only does the new trailer put the screws on Bruce Wayne, but it also highlights the heat between Batman and Catwoman, whose love affair is the stuff of legend throughout comics history. The new trailer also provides us with more footage of The Riddler, who looks to be torturing Batman with a mystery before revealing his connections to Bruce’s dark past.

What do you think about WarnerMedia releasing The Batman on HBO Max so soon after the film’s exclusive theatrical release? Are you digging the new trailer? Let us know in the comments section below.
