Daffy Duck and Porky Pig, the dynamic duo of the Looney Tunes, will head to the silver screen for a sci-fi comedy adventure of epic proportions with The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie! GFM Animation is launching worldwide sales for the Warner Bros. Animation-produced feature at the American Film Market (Oct. 31 – Nov. 5) with plans to share footage of this ambitious animated project.
Pete Browngardt and Looney Tunes Cartoons creative team members direct, with Daffy and Porky embarking on the most extensive quest since the late 1930s. In The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie, Daffy Duck and Porky Pig star as “a pair of unlikely heroes who uncover an alien mind-control plan.” The outrageous animated buddy comedy finds the odd couple joining forces to thwart an interstellar threat, using every trick in the Looney Tunes book to save the planet from domination.
“Our artists have created an incredible Looney Tunes film that follows in the cinematic tradition of when audiences first fell in love with these characters. GFM Animation are the perfect partners to help us bring Porky and Daffy back to their rightful place on the big screen,” said Sam Register, president of Warner Bros. Animation and Cartoon Network Studios.
I’ve been waiting for this announcement my entire Looney Tunes-watching career. Not only is Daffy Duck my favorite Looney Tunes character, but pairing him with Porky Pig is a recipe for comedy gold. The duo go together like oil and water, given Daffy’s unhinged aggression and Porky’s fastidious approach to life. The thought of them saving the world from mind-controlling aliens is something I can’t wait to see, and fans of Looney Tunes classics are sure to eat this up.
It’s been too long since the Looney Tunes got a proper opportunity to shine on the big screen. Joe Dante’s Looney Tunes Back in Action failed to light up the box office despite starring Brendan Fraser, Steve Martin, and Jenna Elfman. Space Jam: A New Legacy also underwhelmed audiences, coming off like a Ready Player One spinoff instead of a sequel to the 1996 original, starring Michael B. Jordan and the Looney Tunes gang.
