The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard trailer reunites Reynolds, Jackson, & Hayek

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard recently moved up its release date from August to June 16, 2021, so our first real look at the film was bound to happen sooner rather than later. It appears that today is the day because Lionsgate has dropped the first trailer for the sequel to the Hitman's Bodyguard and it reunites Ryan Reynold, Samuel L. Jackson, and Salma Hayek.

The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard takes place four years after the original film and finds bodyguard Michael Bryce (Reynolds) continuing his friendship with assassin Darius Kincaid (Jackson) as they embark on a new adventure to save Sonia (Hayek), Darius's wife, from new threats. Directed by Patrick Hughes, the film also stars Frank Grillo, Richard E. Grant, Tom Hopper, Antonio Banderas, and Morgan Freeman.

Released in 2017, The Hitman's Bodyguard was a bit of a surprise hit when it hit theaters in August. The film remained number one at the box office for three weeks in a row and ultimately grossed $75.5 million domestically and $176.6 million globally. The film received mixed reviews from critics, scoring a 43% rotten score on Rotten Tomatoes but the movie was clearly a hit with moviegoers, and a sequel was greenlit in May of 2018.
