Thor: Love and Thunder will be hitting theaters this Friday and it seems that quite a lot of material wound up on the cutting room floor; You might want to pre-order your Thor: Love and Thunder Blu-ray now. Natalie Portman recently spoke with IndieWire and revealed that they filmed so much for Thor: Love and Thunder that they couldn’t possibly use it all.

There were whole sequences, planets, characters, and worlds that didn’t end up in the movie that were hilarious and amazing and [that] we spent a lot of time and energy on, and certainly the entire crew also designing and conceiving,” Natalie Portman said. “It’s just amazing how much great material is not in the film, considering how much great material is in it. Usually, it’s like, you’re just trying to get enough good stuff to put in the film, and this had overflow. So that was really surprising.” The actress revealed that a few of the sequences that were cut involved emotional scenes between Thor and Jane Foster as well as more scenes between Jane and Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie.

I don’t want to spoil anything, but there are some very emotional scenes. The interesting thing was how we had room to workshop them. We filmed 20 different versions of [one key scene]. There’s a few pivotal emotional scenes, but we did really, really different things, many different times.

Between all the alternate takes and scrapped sequences, it sounds like there’s enough to make a whole other movie. For her part, Natalie Portman added that she would have loved to have seen more of how Jane and Valkyrie became such close friends in the final cut of Thor: Love and Thunder.

The official synopsis for Thor: Love and Thunder:

The film finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi), and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.
