The Convent Paul Hyett

We seem to be in the midst of a small nunsploitation boom these days, and it's set to continue with the upcoming release of director Paul Hyett's film THE CONVENT – which has nothing to do with the Mike Mendez movie of the same title. In fact, Hyett's THE CONVENT was going by the title HERETIKS when we previously heard about it.

Vertical Entertainment will be giving the newly retitled film a theatrical and VOD release on May 3rd. In anticipation of this release, a trailer for THE CONVENT has arrived online and can be seen below.

Written by Hyett, Conal Palmer, and Gregory Blair, the story is set in the early 17th century, when

innocent young Persephone is falsely accused and put on trial for her life. Her fate seems sealed except for the timely intervention of the mysterious Reverend Mother offering her not just sanctuary, but hope. For the Reverend Mother is the self-appointed leader of a small religious retreat, a secluded Priory, where her fellow Sisters devote their lives to the Lord and seek atonement for their pasts. But upon arrival, Persephone is plagued with terrifying visions and soon realizes that it’s not salvation that awaits but a battle for her very soul itself.

Hannah Arterton, Michael Ironside, Rosie Day, and HELLRAISER's Clare Higgins star.

Check out the trailer and poster for THE CONVENT and see if this convent looks like a place you'd like to visit in May.
