Trailer for Dave Chappelle’s Sticks & Stones enlists narrator Morgan Freeman

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Dave Chappelle made a rousing and hilarious return to the stand-up special game in 2017 with not one, not two, not three, but four of his specials released on Netflix that year – "The Age of Spin: Dave Chappelle Live at the Hollywood Palladium," "Deep in the Heart of Texas: Dave Chappelle Live at Austin City Limits", and "Dave Chappelle: Equanimity & The Bird Revelation". Now he’s back with another special for the streaming service – STICKS & STONES – and much like he did with his special, "The Age of Spin", Morgan Freeman is back to dramatically narrate as Chappelle walks along the Bonneville Salt Flats, all before dropping a few F-bombs himself.

“This is Dave,” Freeman begins. “He tells jokes for a living. Hopefully, he makes people laugh. But these days it’s a high-stakes game.” Freeman concludes his ethereal pondering with, "I guess what I'm trying to say is if you say anything you risk everything. But hey, if that's the way it's gotta be, okay, fine, f**k it. He's back folks." Come the end, with Chappelle taking the mic and sitting on his stool, we didn't get a taste of any of the actual special, but we won't need to wait long, as it drops on Netflix in less than two weeks on August 26.

On top of landing lucrative stand-up deals, Chappelle has received several awards for his recent work, including two Emmys, one for his hosting gig on SNL back in 2016 and one for the Netflix special EQUANIMITY. As well, he landed a supporting role in the movie A STAR IS BORN (which nabbed him a SAG nomination for Best Ensemble) and earlier this year he was selected to receive the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor. So, yeah, it's a pretty good time to be Dave Chappelle.
