Twin Peaks will premiere in early 2017; filming halfway done

It's no surprise that David Lynch is taking an unusual approach to directing the Twin Peaks revival. It's Lynch, of course he's doing something unusual. In this case, he is shooting the material he has written with series co-creator Mark Frost as if he were making one very long movie. Once it has all been shot, he will begin editing it into episodes. At first, it was said that the revival season would consist of 9 episodes, but the number has since become "more than 9". No one seems to be quite sure just how many episodes there will be (the number 18 has been floated around), as apparently the answer will emerge from the editing process.

This new season of Twin Peaks was originally meant to premiere on Showtime sometime this year, but Showtime CEO David Nevins provided an update on the project at the Television Critics Associations press tour that confirms reports that we still have another year to wait. 

I’m excited to share that David Lynch is more than halfway through shooting schedule, and it will premiere in the first half of 2017."

The cast populating Twin Peaks this time around is set to include Kyle MacLachlan, Sheryl Lee, Sherilyn Fenn, Dana Ashbrook, Machen Amick, Amanda Seyfried, Peter Sarsgaard, Balthazar Getty, Robert Knepper, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Miguel Ferrer, David Patrick Kelly, Richard Beymer, Bailey Chase, and Laura Dern. Robert Forster and Naomi Watts are rumored to be involved as well.
