Verbinski off Pirates

JoBloJoBlo

Apparently Gore Verbinski has had enough of peg legs, eye patches and Johnny Depp. The successful director, who led the PIRATES OF THE CARRIBEAN trilogy to a $2.6 billion worldwide gross has told Variety that he will not be back for the fourth installment, which is set to begin filming in 2010. Here’s what the gracious director had to say on the matter:

I had a fantastic time bringing ‘Pirates’ to life, and I am eternally grateful to Jerry (Bruckheimer), Johnny and the rest of the creative and production team. I’m looking forward to all of us crossing paths again in the future.

Instead, Verbinski will focus on his adaptation of the best-selling video game BIOSHOCK for Universal, which is set to start production in 2010 and is based on a script by John Logan. Fans have been waiting for Verbinski to solidify plans for his BIOSHOCK adaptation for some time now, but first up is the animated film RANGO, also written by Logan and set to be released on on March 18, 2011.

Most notably however, there is now an official opening for the directorial position on the next PIRATES film. If you’ll excuse me, I have to go work on my cover letter.
