What We Do in the Shadows TV show on the way

Last Updated on July 31, 2021

I f*cking love WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS. It unfortunately took me a long time to watch it, because I was burnt out on mockumentaries and vampires at the time, but I'm glad I finally gave it a look. It's probably one of my top favorite comedies of the last few years.

One thing I really loved was the awesome – and extensive – world-building (supposedly writer/directors Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi wrote 150 pages of script, but didn't show it to anyone so they could get genuine reactions from the actors). There were the detailed backstories of each of the vampires, the rivalry and history of the werewolves they encounter later, and a pair of bumbling and easily-manipulated paranormal investigators following them around.

Well, it looks like not only are the werewolves getting their own spin-off movie WE'RE WOLVES, but now it seems that those paranormal investigators are getting their own series called PARANORMAL EVENT RESPONSE UNIT from co-director Jemaine Clement.

This sounds awesome! I love this world, I love the humor, and I love most everything that Clement does (except GENTLEMAN BRONCOS). Six 30-minute episodes are slated to air on the New Zealand channel TVNZ 2, and though no casting has been announced, it's assumed they'd be using the original cast members from the film.

There's also no exact release date set for the series, but co-director Taika Waititi just released his film HUNT FOR THE WINDERPEOPLE starring Sam Neil, and has Marvel's THOR: RAGNAROK on the way November 3rd, 2017.
