Wonka trailer: Timothée Chalamet becomes the Candy Man for a scrumdiddlyumptious origin story

Candy is dandy, but liquor is quicker. An official Wonka trailer is here, and the Candy Man’s fashion sense has never been slicker. Come one, come all, and feast your eyes on Timothée Chalamet’s Willy Wonka, a man of taste, not-so-quiet rage, and maker of delectable treats. Paddington 2‘s Paul King directs the peculiar prequel he co-wrote with Simon Farnaby, based on the story and characters by Roald Dahl.

Wonka focuses on a young Willy Wonka and how he met the Oompa-Loompas on one of his earliest adventures. The prequel about the peculiar chocolatier features an A-list cast, with Olivia Colman (Secret InvasionThe Favourite), Hugh Grant (Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among ThievesNotting Hill), Sally Hawkins (The Shape of WaterBlue Jasmine), Keegan-Michael Key (The Super Mario Bros. MovieThe Predator), and Rowan Atkinson (Johnny EnglishThe Lion KingBean) starring alongside Chalamet. Ellie White, Matt Lucas, Jim Carter, Rich Fulcher, Mathew Baynton, Peterson Joseph, Natasha Rothwell, Simon Farnaby, Tracy Ifeachor, and more also join the cast. Neil Hannon of the band, The Divine Comedy, is in charge of writing original songs for the film.

In today’s Wonka trailer, Timothée Chalamet’s Willy Wonka has sugarplums dancing in his head as he dreams of opening a candy shop in the big city. After a “Eureka” moment, the eccentric chocolatier devises a plan to concoct treats unlike the world has ever seen. With the Chocolate Cartel watching his every move, Willy needs to pull out all the stops if he’s going to become the world’s most extraordinary connoisseur of candy. The Wonka trailer also offers a glimpse of Hugh Grant as a chatty Oompa-Loompa. With his spirited flute and sweet dance moves, the orange-skinned minion will surely bring plenty of humor to this delightful-looking origin story.
