I WANT TO BELIEVE. No that’s not the lede to my article but actually the title of X-FILES 2. Forget about that DONE ONE, that was a working title. The sequel is officially titled X-FILES: I WANT TO BELIEVE. It’s not exactly catchy in the way that FIGHT THE FUTURE was but it’s what director Chris Carter wanted all along and he was finally able to convince Fox as they signed off on it earlier this week. Carter broke the news to the Associated Press in a brief interview yesterday where he said the title “suggests Mulder’s struggle with his faith.” Carter said while I was on set (read Part One of my report here) that he and co-writer Frank Spotnitz had settled on a title but that Fox still wasn’t convinced. Apparently they were convinced and I’m not sure how they did it. I’m not sure I’m sold although the phrase is as iconic as the show. But that’s just me – what are you guys thinking? Strike back below with your thoughts on THE X-FILES: I WANT TO BELIEVE. To read the full AP report, click here to see what else Carter had to say.
