UPDATE: Deadline spoke to Snyder directly and, after confirming General Zod as the villain, here’s what he said: “I’ve been a big fan of the character for a long time, he’s definitely the king of all superheroes, he’s the one. It’s early yet, but I can tell you that what David (Goyer) and Chris (Nolan) have done with the story so far definitely has given me a great insight into a way to make him feel modern. I’ve always felt he was kind of awesome. I’ll finish ‘Sucker Punch’ and get right at it.”

After all the names thrown in the pot, it looks like Nolan and company have decided that this is a job for Zack Snyder.
Well, there you have it ladies and gentlemen. Snyder beat out Tony Scott (MAN ON FIRE), Matt Reeves (LET ME IN), Jonathan Liebesman (BATTLE: LOS ANGELES), Duncan Jones (MOON), and if the rumors were true, Darren Aronofsky (BLACK SWAN). I think some of us might have been rooting secretly for underdog Duncan Jones, but I’m guessing they wanted a bigger name and someone with more experience.
This is not to say that Snyder is a bad choice. Bringing his style to the world of Supes could be very f*cking cool. I believe in Nolan and trust his judgment. Also, Snyder’s upcoming SUCKER PUNCH looks like the ultimate cinematic wet dream. Nothing is better than kick ass visuals and hot young women with weapons.
