Beth Malone is the latest addition to CBS alien series BrainDead

As the night of BrainDead's CBS premiere draws near, casting announcements continue to be made for the brain-eating alien television series. The latest addition to the show's cast is Tony-nominated actress Beth Malone as Claudia, a character described as "a grim, smart ultra-liberal newscaster for an ultra-liberal news station."

Created by Robert and Michelle King, BrainDead stars 10 CLOVERFIELD LANE's Mary Elizabeth Winstead as

Laurel, a young, fresh-faced Hill staffer who gets her first job in Washington, D.C., and discovers two things: the government has stopped working, and alien spawn have come to Earth and eaten the brains of a growing number of congressmen and Hill staffers.

Other cast members include Danny Pino as Laurel's Democratic whip senator brother Luke; Nikki James as medical resident Rochelle; Aaron Tveit as Gareth, the Legislative Director to a Republican senator; Johnny Ray Gill as eccentic genius Gustav; and Tony Shalhoub as a hard-drinking, fun-loving Republican senator who undergoes a change into a health-conscious extremist.

I'm not familiar with Malone's acting work, but the character description makes it sound like she'll be playing a Rachel Maddow type, which makes perfect sense for this sort of show. I'm looking forward to seeing how it skewers politics and the media circus around politics while also featuring aliens that munch on brains.

CBS goes BrainDead on June 13th.
