Cool Horror Gear: Classic horror stories curated by Guillermo del Toro

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Horror aficionado Guillermo del Toro has taken on the horror classics as he has teamed up with Penguin to curate the their horror hardcover series, featuring his favorite horror, sci-fi, fantasy and paranormal stories. “To learn what we fear is to learn who we are,” del Toro wrote in his series introduction, an essay titled “Haunted Castles, Dark Mirrors: On the Penguin Horror Series.” It's absolutely fascinating to hear what del Toro has to say about anything in the horror genre, especially when it comes to the classics so this series should be pretty damn cool. The new designs by Paul Buckley are ridiculously cool as well and you can take a peek at them below!

The series includes: The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson, The Thing on the Doorstep and Other Weird Stories by H.P. Lovecraft, The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe, Haunted Castles by Ray Russell (a Penguin Classics debut), Frankenstein by Mary Shelley and American Supernatural Tales with stories by Stephen King, Shirley Jackson and more.
