Producer Wyck Godfrey told ComingSoon.net that Stuart Beattie’s (the upcoming G.I. JOE film, COLLATERAL) script for GEARS OF WAR is complete, and the film is tentatively looking at a Summer 2010 release date.

Also, a director announcement is imminent. “We’ve got our script on and a director we’re about to attach.” Godfrey says.

Here’s the lowdown on GEARS: The game thrusts players into humankind’s epic battle for survival against the Locust Horde, a nightmarish race of creatures that surface from the bowels of the planet. The story unfolds as a ragtag group of soldiers use every last ounce of strength to survive the onslaught from the forces of evil, which begins on the historic Emergence Day.

If you’ll remember, Len “Lucky Bastard” Wiseman was attached at one point to direct the film, but dropped out (while he was dropping in and out of ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK).

Meanwhile Beattie’s next project is apparently a live-action CARE BEARS MOVIE, to star Hilary Duff (below). Hey, the man’s gotta eat… A LOT I guess…
