Independence Day Resurgence Jeff Goldblum Roland Emmerich

Is it just me, or is INDEPENDENCE DAY: RESURGENCE unhealthily obsessed with its own fictional technology? In this new clip, Jeff Goldblum (doing a terrific Jeff Goldblum impression – he literally begins the clip with "um") runs us through some more of the tech developments of the human world in the wake of our war with the aliens back in 1996. Which, you may remember, was ended by an Apple computer. Maybe we shouldn't trust these guys with explaining how gadgetry works.

At any rate, you can check the clip out below and get a taste of some of the gadgetry we'll be dealing with in the movie proper.

Directed by Emmerich, who co-wrote with Dean Devlin, James Vanderbilt, James A. Woods, and Nicolas Wright, INDEPENDENCE DAY: RESURGENCE has the following synopsis:

We always knew they were coming back.  After INDEPENDENCE DAY redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter delivers global spectacle on an unimaginable scale.  Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet.  But nothing can prepare us for the aliens' advanced and unprecedented force.  Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction.

Bill Pullman, Liam Hemsworth, Jeff Goldblum, Vivica A. Fox, Judd Hirsch, Brent Spiner, Charlotte Gainsbourg,Joey King, Maika Monroe, Sela Ward, DeObia Oparei, William Fichtner, and Jessie Usher star.

RESURGENCE will be in theatres on June 23rd, just in time for, you know, Independence Day.
