Matt Reeves’ Let Me In to open September’s Fantastic Fest!

Last Updated on July 23, 2021

This September brings another hotly anticipated Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas, and today brings the announcement that the fest will kick off with Matt Reeves’ LET ME IN. The red carpet event will take place on Thursday, September 23 at The Paramount Theatre with director Matt Reeves and cast members in attendance.

Here’s Reeves’ statement regarding the matter: “We are truly honored that Fantastic Fest has chosen to open their festival with the U.S. premiere of Let Me In. It is incredibly exciting to be able to present the film to an audience who I know are just as passionate about John Ajvide Linqvist’s story as I am.”

Obviously the film is already under close scrutiny, so to premiere it at such a geek-heavy festival is ballsy – and perhaps a perfect move, providing the flick is any good. If that audience gives it its blessing, it may not be such hard times ahead for Reeves’ controversial remake.

In case you’re unaware (although not sure how that would be possible), LET ME IN is about an alienated 12-year old (Kodi Smit-McPhee) who is viciously bullied by his classmates and neglected by his divorcing parents. Achingly lonely, Owen spends his days plotting revenge on his middle school tormentors and his evenings spying on the other inhabitants of his apartment complex. His only friend is his new neighbor Abby (Chloe Moretz), an eerily self-possessed young girl who lives next door with her silent father (Oscar nominee Richard Jenkins).
