One of Universal’s monster movies has been dated for 2017

Although DRACULA UNTOLD gave us a very small taste of the shared monsterverse that Universal has planned, THE MUMMY is where this shit is really getting started as the studio has pegged that film to land in theaters on June 24, 2016.

But that’s only the beginning of what is going to be a massive undertaking for Universal as they’ve already dated their next monster movie for a release on April 21, 2017. Which movie is it? Your guess is as good as mine, but I'm assuming they're going to tell us sometime between now and 2017.

My money is on Creature from the Black Lagoon because that one is about due for a remake of sorts. I'm not going to get too excited about it, though, because the way this monsterverse has started, I wouldn't be surprised if Gill-Man is a gooey CGI mess who uses his superhero-like ability to shit fish at a crusty old boat captains for an hour and a half.

The studio announced plans in July to create a Marvel-like cinematic universe around the studio’s classic monsters like the Mummy, Dracula, Frankenstein, the Wolfman, the Invisible Man and the Creature From the Black Lagoon. And if you were to ask me—I know you're not, but still—I'd say they're off to a DRACULA UNTOLD start, which is to say a shitty one. A very, very shitty one.
