Sci-fi video game Mass Effect coming to the big screen?

Last Updated on July 23, 2021

I hope you’re a big fan of video game adaptations because today we’ve got yet another recent game getting the big screen treatment. Who is the victim this time? X-Box 360 game MASS EFFECT.

News coming in via The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision blog has Legendary Pictures snatching up the rights to the hit sci-fi game, which scored a sequel (below) earlier this year. Warner Bros. will be distributing worldwide with Legendary’s Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni producing alongside Avi and Ari Arad.

Set in the year 2183, MASS EFFECT focuses on a human soldier and his starship, the SSV Normandy. The galaxy-spanning story involves a long-extinct race of aliens, dormant beacons and more alien species than you can count.

That’s the just of it given to us from Heat Vision. Personally I didn’t really dig MASS EFFECT. I gave it a shot and found it just wasn’t very appealing… Felt like we’ve seen it all before, you know? Anyone else come to that conclusion with MASS EFFECT? Hell anyone out there dig the sh*t out of the game? If anything it seems MASS EFFECT is one video game that should transition well onto film, or so says the producers:

“….[MASS EFFECT is] ripe for translation… [it has] depth, compelling characters and an engaging back story….. a parable whose conflicts mirror the ones we currently face in our own world. This story emphasizes the need for all cultures to learn to work together.”

Legendary Pictures are currently in negotiations with scribe Mark Protosevich to pen the film. Protosevich is no stranger to the blockbuster sci-fi world, having penned I AM LEGEND and THOR among other things, so at least they’re looking to someone who should know what they’re doing.

So what do you guys think? A MASS EFFECT flick, yay or nay? Hit us with your thoughts below and keep it here for more on the project as we hear it.
