Scooby-Doo will be sleuthing back onto the big screen

Last Updated on July 22, 2021

Everybody's favorite crime-solving Great Dane has never really gone away. The secretly pretty decent Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated ran from 2010 to 2013 and Be Cool, Scooby-Doo! will premiere on Boomerang late this year. And that's not even mentioning the gang's recent team-up with the classic rock band KISS for Scooby-Doo! and Kiss: Rock and Roll Mystery, which was released on DVD and Blu-Ray on July 21, 2015.

However, the fact remains that Scooby-Doo and his friends Shaggy, Velma, Fred and Daphne haven't been spotted in theaters – through a magnifying glass or otherwise – since the live-action SCOOBY-DOO 2: MONSTERS UNLEASHED in 2004. Whatever your feelings may have been toward that film, it's high time to change that fact, and Warner Animation agrees. An animated Scooby-Doo film helmed by Tony Cervone (director of the gang's KISS crossover) with a script by Matt Lieberman is slated to be released on September 21, 2018.

This will be the first animated Scooby-Doo film to be released theatrically, and if the KISS film is any indication, it's sure to be a pretty fun throwback to the good old days of the cartoon with a modern spin. This could be a really great way to introduce new generations of fans to Scooby and the gang, and I for one can't wait to put the keys in the ignition of the Mystery Machine once more, with a popcorn bucket full of Scooby Snacks.
