It has only been one week since we checked out of "Bates Motel", the hit A&E series that stars Freddie Highmore as a young Norman Bates and Vera Farmiga as his mother, Norma, and I'm ready to make reservations for next season now before I go PSYCHO! Um...yeah, sorry about the (admittedly) bad pun, but "Bates Motel" proved to be one of the best new shows of the past year, genre or otherwise, so of course I'm stoked to see more. Now series creator and showrunner Carlton Cuse has offered up some tantalizing teases of the next season to come, including which additional members of the Bates clan will pop up, and who the series will explore in season 2!
Talking with TV Guide, Cuse says that the second season will delve deeper into the Bates’ family history, which Norma herself recently revealed by admitting to her son Norman that as a girl she was forced to have sex with her brother. This revelation paves the way for the introduction of Norma's sibling next season, which starts shooting in late July for an early 2014 return.
“We would be remiss if we didn’t meet some other members of the Bates family. I don’t want to say who, but we are definitely going to learn about their family tree, which has more twisty branches.”
Star Vera Farmiga adds...
"With a lot of sticky sap. There is one family member I desperately want to meet."
Cuse also added that Norma would find herself a new love interest in the coming year, one we’ve yet to meet. This is exciting news for Farmiga, who adds...
"She sure needs it. Her neediness gives her an urgent desire to touch and kiss Norman, and that need should probably be filled by someone other than her son."
Also, Nestor Carbonell’s mysterious Sheriff Romero will receive a bigger spotlight in the second season of "Bates Motel", moving into more of his home life and the identity of Dylan’s father. Says series star Freddie Highmore...
"...The big question mark is Dylan's dad. There's certainly a story to be told there."
We'll keep you posted on news regarding "Bates Motel" as it comes our way!
