Spanish artist’s post-apocalyptic animated sci-fi short Rosa turning heads in Hollywood

Last Updated on July 23, 2021

It’s no secret that the internet has brought a lot of negative things to the movie industry. I can go on a tangent and name them all but I’m sure you guys have better things to do on this fine Saturday morning. So instead I’m going to concentrate on a positive the interwebs have brought the industry.

Probably the best thing about the internet in relation to film is the opportunities it has given to indie filmmakers who are just trying to get their product out there. Take Jesus Orellana for example. The talented Spanish comic-book artist has aspirations of becoming a live-action feature director and today he’s taken a huge step in the right direction!

It took him a whole year but Orellana has completed something pretty awesome, and on no budget! I’m talking about the animated short film ROSA. The post-apocalyptic sci-fi treat has just recently hit the internet and is already turning heads. Hell it was already featured in USA Today! Pretty impressive.

Before that the short film has played at the Seattle International Film Festival, then SITGES, Screamfest, Toronto After Dark, among others. Want the rundown for this little gem? Of course you do!

Rosa is “an epic sci-fi short film that takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where all natural life has disappeared. From the destruction awakes Rosa, a cyborg deployed from the Kernel project, mankind’s last attempt to restore the earth’s ecosystem. Rosa will soon learn that she is not the only entity that has awakened and must fight for her survival.”

There you have it folks! Orellana is currently fielding interest from agencies, producers and studios on a live-action version of ROSA so we can expect to hear more about this one soon, I’m sure. In the meantime you can tap the short film below then spit some bullets on what you think!
