Takashi Miike brings more horror to North America, Over Your Dead Body

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Japanese filmmaker Takashi Miike churns out new projects at an incredible speed, averaging four movies a year over the last twenty-four years, so even though the Miike film YAKUZA APOCALYPSE just reached North American theatres twenty days ago, it's no surprise that we're already hearing which movie will be the next Miike joint to reach this continent.

Scream Factory is set to release Miike's supernatural horror film OVER YOUR DEAD BODY on DVD, Blu-ray, Digital HD, iTunes, and all major On-Demand platforms on January 5, 2016.

A modern take on the Yotsuya Kaidan ghost story, which originated as a kabuki play in 1825, OVER YOUR DEAD BODY centers on

a beautiful actress (Kô Shibasaki of 47 Ronin and Battle Royale) who plays the protagonist in a new play based on a legendary ghost story. She pulls some strings to get her lover cast in the play, although he's a relatively unknown actor. With the cast in place, rehearsals for the play, about an abusive relationship and a grudge, begin. But off stage, some begin to develop their own obsessions. Trapped between the play and reality, they are horrified to find that a real grudge can cross the blurred line between reality and fantasy. Will love flourish? Or has it already turned hideously dark?

Scream Factory has provided a trailer for the film, which can be seen below. As you would expect from Miike, it looks like this is going to one twisted, bloody experience.

OVER YOUR DEAD BODY can be pre-ordered on Amazon at this link.
