The Nun could score an opening weekend of $40 million

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

I don't think I'm alone here in saying that one of the upcoming horror movies I'm looking forward to checking out as soon as I can is director Corin Hardy's THE NUN starring Demian Bichir and Taissa Farmiga. The trailer looks like spooky (and surprisingly epic) good times and so I'm counting down the days.

And I guess I'm not the only one as it looks like we have word today that new THE CONJURING spin-off may very well make a killing at the box-office come opening weekend. Early tracking suggests the fifth installment in the franchise will open with more than $32 million. And if that wasn't impressive enough, some are predicting the new spin-off will open even higher, in the ballpark of $37 million.

For the sake of being thorough here, the original THE CONJURING opened at $41.8 million, THE CONJURING 2 opened at $40.4 million, ANNABELLE scored $37.1 million, and ANNABELLE: CREATION scared up $35 million. I hate to be that guy, but I can't help but notice those numbers are going down… Hopefully, THE NUN changes this, right?

The spinoff is set in Romania in 1951 and begins when

A young nun at a cloistered abbey in Romania takes her own life, a priest with a haunted past and a novitiate on the threshold of her final vows are sent by the Vatican to investigate.  Together they uncover the order’s unholy secret.  Risking not only their lives but their faith and their very souls, they confront a malevolent force in the form of the same demonic nun that first terrorized audiences in “The Conjuring 2,” as the abbey becomes a horrific battleground between the living and the damned.

Do you plan to check out Corin Hardy's THE NUN opening weekend? Let us know below. And for those of you out there who aren't sure when the film's opening weekend will be upon us, the movie opens in theaters nationwide September 7th. It has snagged an R rating via the MPAA for "terror, violence, and disturbing/bloody images."
