A minute long clip from THE MUMMY has been released online, and I can see why this was the clip Universal chose to share with the world. This sixty seconds of footage seems to contain every element the overall film has going for it: there's horror, there's action, and there's humor. This clip also has something for both Tom Cruise fans and haters. The fans get to see the man in action, facing off with the mummy herself. The haters get to see him get knocked around by the mummy.

Myself, I've been a Cruise super-fan since I was a kid, so the fact that he's stepping into the horror genre to fight a mummy and her zombie minions is extremely cool to me.

Featured with Cruise in this clip are Sofia Boutella as the mummy and Annabelle Wallis as the woman encouraging him to kick the mummy's ass. They are joined in the cast by Jake Johnson, Courtney B. Vance, Marwan Kenzari, Javier Botet, and Russell Crowe as both Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.

The synopsis:

Thought safely entombed in a crypt deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient queen whose destiny was unjustly taken from her, is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension.

From the sweeping sands of the Middle East through hidden labyrinths under modern-day London, The Mummy brings a surprising intensity and balance of wonder and thrills in an imaginative new take that ushers in a new world of gods and monsters.

Directed by Alex Kurtzman from a screenplay by Jon Spaihts, THE MUMMY is scheduled to reach theatres on June 9th.

This is the first installment in a Universal Monsters cinematic universe that the studio is calling Dark Universe. The next Dark Universe movie will be BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN, directed by Bill Condon and starring Javier Bardem as Frankenstein's Monster. That film is set for a February 14, 2019 release.
