Tom Hardy wants to play The Punisher

Tom Hardy is one of the very few convincing badasses working in movies today. Hardy looks like a guy who could knock you down with one punch and not spill his lager in the process. This is why he was a perfect Bronson, this is why he’s a terrific choice for Mad Max, and this is why I could see him playing Frank Castle, aka THE PUNISHER.

Now, don’t get your knickers in a twist just yet. There is no new Punisher movie coming out, and even if there were, there is no guarantee Hardy would tackle the role. That said, the Brit seems rather keen on the idea, as he brought it up himself in an interview with Collider:

Q: I heard Warner Bros. has a few more superhero movies, maybe one or two that they’re developing [Laughs].

 
HARDY: I want The Punisher… I want The Punisher, or Splinter Cell, I want something…I don’t know what I want.

 Q: You as Punisher could be very interesting.

 
HARDY: I’m not big enough to be The Punisher, I’m 5’9” [Laughs].
 

Q: But I actually think that adds to the character.

 
HARDY: Frank Castle, I would love it. Is that him, isn’t it?

If MAD MAX: FURY ROAD is a big hit and Hardy finally makes it to the A-list, perhaps there’s a chance he gets to pick whatever project he wants. And if he wants to play Frank Castle, well, maybe that’s something we could end up seeing in the future. There’s no doubt Marvel will revive the character at some point; perhaps in their Daredevil Netflix show, perhaps in yet another stand-alone movie. I can’t think of too many other people who’d wear the skull shirt better than Hardy, you?
