07.10.2012by: Jared Pacheco

I know the trailer for Pete Travis' DREDD has been out for a few weeks already but I just caught this shite the other day and I've got to be honest... it didn't really sell me. Now I'm not even sure what I was expecting with DREDD but the trailer didn't really do much to make me want to see the flick, know what I mean? I'm sure I'm not the only one either.

Then again I'm sure there are plenty of you out there that are stoked for DREDD! Does that mean you'll be excited to hear about the possibility of more DREDD films? Maybe. I'm going to tell you about that very possibility anyway! You see the guys over at Bleeding Cool got word from DREDD scribe Alex Garland that he actually has two more DREDD films planned! A trilogy eh? Check it out from Garland's own words:

"Weíll see a sequel if the gross is above $50 million in the US. Itís a simple financial equation. Weíre an independent movieÖ In terms of Dark Judges, I wrote Death into this script, but it didnít feel right for the first film. I thought it felt right but after about 16 drafts and it really didnít work out."

"I needed to have set up the city and Dredd first before taking on what is essentially a riff on the Judges. You need to know what the Judges are before you can subvert them."

"I wrote a second script which was about Dredd going out to the Cursed Earth. That was rejected for similar reasons."

"If they want to make sequels, Iíve got a story that goes from this one into the origins of Dredd and the city. Then the third one has would have a strange, existential attack from the Dark Judges."

So DREDD has to make at least $50 million before anyone starts talking sequel. You think it has a chance? Spit some bullets below and let us know! While you're at it tell us what you think of the possibility of DREDD becoming a trilogy!

During a routine day on the job, Dredd is assigned to train and evaluate Cassandra Anderson, a rookie with powerful psychic abilities thanks to a genetic mutation. A heinous crime calls them to a neighborhood where fellow Judges rarely dare to venture- a 200 story vertical slum controlled by prostitute turned drug lord Ma-Ma and her ruthless clan. When they capture one of the clanís inner circle, Ma-Ma overtakes the compoundís control center and wages a dirty, vicious war against the Judges that proves she will stop at nothing to protect her empire. With the body count climbing and no way out, Dredd and Anderson must confront the odds and engage in the relentless battle for their survival.

Starring Karl Urban, Lena Headey, Olivia Thirlby (below), Kevin Kane, Jason Cope, Joe Vaz, Langley Kirkwood and Warrick Grier, DREDD upholds the Law on September 21st.

Extra Tidbit: So how similar do you think DREDD looks to that hit international action romp THE RAID?
