Antoine Fuqua to helm drug thriller Narco Sub from the late Tony Scott

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Antoine Fuqua is one busy guy. After a lull in films after the lackluster TEARS OF THE SUN and KING ARTHUR, Fuqua came back strong with OLYMPUS HAS FALLEN and this year’s THE EQUALIZER. With THE EQUALIZER already being prepped for a sequel and Fuqua linked to a MAGNIFICENT SEVEN remake, Deadline is also linking the filmmaker to the drug thriller NARCO SUB.

Previously set as a vehicle for the late Tony Scott, rumors has EDGE OF TOMORROW director Doug Liman in talks to helm the movie. With those negotiations gone, Fuqua has stepped up to take on the project. 20th Century Fox has been trying to get the film made for a while and now it looks like David Guggenheim‘s script will finally get to the big screen.

It’s set in the dangerous world of drug smuggling and the title refers to the semi-submersible crafts that South American drug cartels have been using to ship cocaine into the U.S. without having to deal with land-based authorities.

Ridley Scott will still produce his late brother’s passion project through their Scott Free banner. There is no word on any potential casting decisions for the film, but stay tuned. Hopefully NARCO SUB will happen sooner than later.
