4th Underworld coming

Back before any of this TWILIGHT business, there was another movie franchise about warring factions of vampires and werewolves. It was called UNDERWORLD and while it lacked some of the obvious melodrama present in the TWILIGHT franchise, I can’t really say that they were all that much better. Yet they were profitable in their own little way and Sony-based Screen Gems is moving forward on a fourth UNDERWORLD film. John Hlavin (“The Shield”) has signed on to write the film with previous director Len Wiseman producing.

It’s unclear at this point whether we can expect the return of either Kate Becksinale (unlikely) or Rhona Mitra (possible) in either of the characters that have previously led the films. All Hlavin would say about the plot is that, “it will satisfy old fans and excite new audiences, meaning that we don’t want to redo the first three movies, so steps are being taken to honor what fans have loved but at the same time introduce fresh elements,” which basically means nothing.
