The works of Boston native Dennis Lehane have been hot commodities amongst the top-tiered filmmakers in Hollywood, including Clint Eastwood (MYSTIC RIVER) and Martin Scorsese (SHUTTER ISLAND). His last work to see the big screen was Ben Affleck’s rock solid 2007 feature directorial debut GONE BABY GONE.
Now, according to Variety, Lehane is finally going to write for the movies (after having turned down all previous offers made to him) with an adaptation of his own ANIMAL RESCUE. The short story, taken from the Akashic Books anthology “Boston Noir” (which Lehane also edited), centers on a killing that results from a lost and contested pit bull.
Former News Corp. honcho Peter Chernin is on board as producer. You may recall that he’s also the guy behind CAESAR, the proposed Planet of the Apes reboot, as well as the recently announced DAREDEVIL reboot. Hmmm…
