Chris Rock will host the 88th Academy Awards

10.21.2015

For those of you who have missed Chris Rock being on the radar, the man is returning to the stage come 2016. The Academy has officially announced that Rock will play host for the the 88th Academy Awards. This will mark his second time as host, having entertained us at the event back in 2005.

Chris Rock has taken a bigger role behind the camera when it comes to his projects, having recently directed the Amy Schumer special Amy Schumer: Live at the Apollo for HBO. Last year, he also wrote, directed and starred in TOP FIVE, which many considered to be his return to form (you can check out our review here). As glad as I am that he's being more selective these days, I do miss seeing the man in decent films on a regular basis. If he's willing to skewer a few while handing out some awards, I suppose I can tune in for that.

The 88th Academy Awards will air on Sunday, February 28, 2016.

Because he worked out so well last time!

Just joking. In all seriousness about the Oscars as a whole, participating in the annual Oscar prediction contest and doing the live feed with all the rest of you Schmoes for the first time was the best Oscars I've ever had. I plan on doing it every year from now on and thank you all for making the Oscars something I can enjoy each year.

Fuck the oscars, I hate the fact that they are so fucking stuck up their own ass they don't appreciate quality film making. It's a joke that recently films that Pixar have made haven't even been given a sniff and that they refuse to recognise mo-cap work and the impact that has brought. Mo-cap especially pisses me off especially when films can be recognised for VFX. I hate the fact that often now films that win awards and actors that receive best actor are from smaller niche films and not box

I seriously think there needs to be a rival to the oscars, a serious one that recognises that movies are a hugely important part of life

Don't care about who win the trophies, but I like this host. He's usually good.

Can't say that I care.

I only watched the Golden Globes when Ricky Gervais hosted, which was the best thing ever. Someone like him will never be able to host an award show ever again.

No!

Sorry, I know he has a lot of fans.. but I find him to be extremely irritating.

While I'm under no illusions about the Oscars, they are my annual punishment, and the past few years have been particularly dreadful because the hosts are so managed. Chris Rock is innately funny enough, and he can draw attention to the hypocrisy of the show without it coming off as a cheap joke.

Oscars, like almost every other award ceremony, is simply Hollywood sniffing its own ass. Often times, the Best Picture is more of a popularity contest than something with merits, and actors and actress always come up with an issue that becomes a source of discourse over the following months. I'll likely just watch a Youtube super cut like I do every year the next day after the Oscars.

Oscars are a joke anyway, and tend to run much longer than they really should.

Yay!

Not to sound negative, but I've noticed that who the writers are tends to be a bigger factor. I hope Chris is allowed to write jokes for this ceremony.
