Christian Bale says no to Darren Aronofsky's Noah

11.30.2011

Christian Bale had been in talks to play the titular character of Darren Aranofsy's biblical epic NOAH, but he's turned down the deal. The reason is simple- he's starring in tw Terrence Malick films and his schedule doesn't allow it. Those two films are LAWLESS and KNIGHT OF CUPS, and they're shooting back-to-back. Look at Malick, being all prolific finally!

Bale was Aronofsky's first choice but now he's targeting Michael Fassbender. There's been no official offer just yet but it's been told that they've discussed the part.

Aronofsky wrote the original script for NOAH with Ari Handel, which was subsequently rewritten by John Logan (GLADIATOR). Aronofsky is producing with Scott Franklin BLACK SWAN.

I really hope this isn't a straight biblical film. It'd be awesome if Aronofsky twisted into a dark and disturbing tale of a man tormented by his delusions. I haven't read too much about this project, but that'd be pretty killer if it was all about Noah being insane and obsessed with building his Ark. Yeah, that's something I could get behind.

I'm with you there. At the same time I don't see a studio putting too much money behind a film that would offend so many Christians. It would be as difficult to get a Christian to buy a ticket to that as it would for Republican to see Oliver Stone's Bush film.

Here's an idea... (as a Christian) I say keep you're idea of a man "tormented by his delusions" because that actually sounds good. I think it's cool and I'm not really offended at all. But have the ending be that the flood actually starts and leave it ambiguous so that the audience doesn't know if it was God or if it was just coincidence. Give it that "Take Shelter" trailer feel (because I still haven't seen Take Shelter. only the trailer).

I would be more excited about this film considering all who are involved so far, and who they're aiming to get as a lead, but it's still a Noah's Ark movie and I just can't get stoked on that. I'm sure it will be well done though regardless of my tastes.

DeadAce is spot on

Honestly could not agree more. Too bad we don't get Bale, but Fassbender is my second fav.

I really would love to see Fassbender in this!! He would be Great. If Fassbender turns down the role though. I would say Vincent Cassel is an excellent choice as well!!

This film has such big potential with the people and story involved! A Shame we won't get Bale, but Fassbender is a great second choice! I smell oscars all around..

If not Fassbender, then Hugh Jackman. After the brilliance that was The Fountain, I would like to see them reteam for another film.

so this might be a more serious version of Evan Almighty, eh? This sounds like a tough one to pull off coz, how do you make a movie about a single flood? I hope he doesn't go the route like what Michael Bay did with Pearl Habor.

What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone on this site is now dumber for having read it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

If you have dropped a few IQ points, i apologise sincerely and meant no harm. I wrote that while dosing (please forgive me, it was late)
What I meant was; will this movie spend the entire first 40minutes on Noah constructing the ark and the next 15 minutes showing the disaster? This sounds like a format a TV-movie would use.
Michael Bay had to slap a cringe-inducing love story to PH otherwise the movie would have been 70minutes or less if it only focused on the build up to the bombing.

I hope that clears up everything. Allahu, akbar...dude

Titanic did this as well. Not a big Titanic fan, but it is very possible to carve/flesh out a relevant story around the arc/flood.

What's the deal with this Noah movie? Is it historical like Passion of the Christ? Or is it taking place in modern day, like a dramatic version of Evan almighty? Either way I skeptical, and I'm a big Aronofsky fan.

If not Bale, than Fassbender? Two of my favorite actors going. I think the premise is strange but the talent behind it and those old concept shots are pretty impressive.
