Cool Videos: Ashton Kutcher's uplifting and inspirational speech from the Teen Choice Awards

Cool Videos

I was going to start by talking about how Ashton Kutcher tends to get slapped around on movie sites (although he has earned it at times), but really I want to focus on the positive here and on this awesome speech he gave at the Teen Choice Awards on Sunday. Kutcher was there to accept the Ultimate Choice Award and he delivered a powerful and motivational speech to the teen audience. He talked about his experiences and what he learned as "Chris" (Ashton is his middle name), before he was an actor. He goes on to say that "Opportunity looks a lot like hard work" and "The sexiest thing in the entire world is being really smart. And being thoughtful and being generous. Everything else is crap, I promise you." He continues with some other words of wisdom and in general comes off as very humble and appreciative of where he is today.

A cynic might say that Kutcher's message was probably ignored since most of the girls in the audience were too busy shrieking to pay attention, or that he's just trying to promote JOBS by coming across as thoughtful, i.e. not Kelso. But his speech isn't self-serving in my opinion, and he seems a little nervous at times which makes me think that what he said truly came from his heart and isn't some act. Shit, even Rush Limbaugh is impressed. Maybe he was inspired by Steve Jobs or maybe he just wanted to say something that could have a positive impact on these young people's lives, but either way Ashton Kutcher deserves some respect for his speech. Cheers dude.

Good Speech

Always had a soft spot for Kutcher cuz of That 70's Show and he has always seemed like a pretty cool guy when interviewed and on talk shows. I feel people get a lot of hate because of the projects they choose or the roles they play.. It's his damn job. Maybe they are the only ones being offered? Anyways, I know the guy isn't the best actor but the message in this speech for the viewers watching was very well said. Working at a Rec center, I deal with kids all the time who could learn something

Little shits these days just seem to have less and less of the character traits that make up a honest, hard-working, and compassionate human beings and if this speech changed even one kids thought process on life then I'm all for it. Way to go AK.

It doesn't matter if Kutcher isn't Brando in terms of acting talent, or even if he's a tad douchey. If he's a decent guy who genuinely wants to teach kids important lessons, then good on him. It's a lot like Keanu Reeves-people knock him all the time for his acting, but he's one of the most kind-hearted generous actors out there. I heard a rumor that he took a deduction in his Matrix salary so that the tech people could be paid more for their hard work. In the cheap sparkly town of

He didn't take a deduction. He gave away his own millions away to the FX team. He made everyone on the FX team basically a millionaire.

This is a good speech regardless of who's giving it. And I give Kutcher earnestness points since this is the Teen Choice Awards, and a lot of these kids haven't had to learn this stuff yet (if he gave this same speech at a show more geared to adults, it would have come off just a little more pretentious). He might be a hypocrite, and I still don't like him, but I do have to respect him just a little bit.

I saw this on youtube

The title read "Ashton Kutcher funny speech at teen choice awards." It's just in one ear and out the other with some of these kids.

I'm sorry Kutcher, you dont get to say "dont fall for the sex that they sell crap" after selling it for for years and making your living off of it. Everything he just said is common sense, even if these teens hes talking to dont know it yet they will. Maybe he's had a change of heart? Yeah, he's had a change of heart after making millons upon millions selling sex, making mediore films, and shitty TV shows. Just cause you played steve jobs it doesnt make you steve jobs. How did this joker get

Yeah, cause God forbid a human being actually "live and learn" and "change for the better" in life. I find cynics more hurtful than people actually making changes in their lives. At least they're trying. Cynics just sit around and complain and bitch about others. If "these teens don't know about" all the stuff he's saying, isn't it possible that he _may_ have inspired a couple of them and possibly (just possibly) given their life a stronger direction? No, not possible? C'mon folks, do we have

I AM THE ONE WHO KNOCKS!!! Sorry couldnt resist! But yeah I dont think its harmful for people to question everything. Why is Ashton considered a role model for these kids? To me at least he is far from being a role model. He could be an awesome stand up dude but his bodyline of work of being just an entertainer says otherwise. Its also a little pretentious to say "dont buy into the sex and the stuff hollywood sells" when you're the billboard.

good speech

He's definitely influenced by Steve Jobs after his new role, but it was a good speech because kids look up to their role models. Kids are like sponges, whatever you teach them they will absorb it and take it in, so its good to hear somebody they admire teach them good values.

People like Justin Bieber could learn alot from Ashton Kutcher and become better role models for these kids.

Kudos

I'm not a big fan of Kutcher and I've never really enjoyed any of his roles that I can recall. But, as a high school teacher, I can appreciate the fact that he just said a lot of things that kids should hear, and hearing it from someone like him might mean more to them than if their parents or teachers said it. For this, and the fact that he comes home to Demi every night, I give him props.

He hasn't been with Demi for a while now. But I guess that's beside the point.
