Cool Videos: See Nicolas Cage's lost audition for Steven Spielberg's Lincoln!

Jun. 17, 2013by: Paul Shirey

All right, all right, so it's not the REAL Nicolas Cage auditioning for LINCOLN, but it's a pretty damn funny rendition of what it might have been like, as performed by Big Bang Theory's Simon Helberg. The actual role was played with a deft touch by Daniel Day Lewis, who took over from Liam Neeson, who was long in the running to portray the influential President. However, one can only imagine what someone like Cage would've brought to the role, which had more than a few moments for the Oscar-winning actor to unleash some "Cage Rage" had he been given the chance. Ah, we can dream can't we?

Four Score and Seven Years Ago!:

Extra Tidbit: I'll always wonder how Liam Neeson would've worked out in the role. DDL was great, but I always had Neeson in mind.

okay, has NO ONE seen Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip where Simon Helberg did a sketch called the Nicolas Cage show?? he does a MEAN Nic Cage. and a pretty decent Tom Cruise (ben stiller as tom cruise) as well.

I didn't even watch it because,Samberg aside, nothing compares to the genuine article. But on the tidbit, while Spielberg had Neeson in mind for a long time, I can't imagine him pulling off a higher pitched voice, probably settling for more how we imagine Lincoln based on his photographs. Day-Lewis' voice sold the role to me as much if not more than his likeness did. I could so imagine ol' Abe going on about various historical figures and growing up in Kentucky, just like that.

That guy's terrible at impersonating Nic Cage. Just like his show ,Big Bang Theory, is terrible. Andy Samberg's impersonation is way funnier.

Totally agree this was not funny at all. did not laugh once. Andy Samberg destroys his Nic Cage impression.

Extra tidbit: I think it should be DDL (Daniel Day Lewis), not DDD. DDD sounds like Double DareDevil!
