Creepy Thin Man Bale

07.14.2009

Christian Bale, THE FIGHTER When Christian Bale dropped a ludicrous amount of weight to become a frighteningly emaciated schizophrenic in THE MACHINIST, he promised he wouldn't attempt such drastic weight loss again as it could affect his health.

He was recently spotted on the set of the David O. Russell directed THE FIGHTER and guess what he's done again? Become frighteningly emaciated after dropping a ludicrous amount of weight. Sure, he's playing a drug addicted boxer, Dicky Eklund, alongside Mark Wahlberg as Mickey Ward, but, come one, the dramatic weight loss has got to stop. Dude. Seriously.

How many times is this?

First there was The Machinist to BB... Then there was Rescue Dawn and The Dark Knight. After T4 he drops it again... he is cruising for some serious problems. They are called visual affect Bale, look into them. Just don't hit anyone when you do.

Welcome to one of the many things I think are overblown and fairly arrogant about him.

Great likeness

Bale does look a lot like Dickie Eklund in the pic above. Maybe not so much the face but the physical frame looks like that of the former contender turned crack addict.

I'm really looking forward to this film, The Micky Ward story is gripping stuff!

His Body, Not Mine

Meh, at least it will be a welcome departure from his last two awful movies. This might make me think him a good actor again.

Well firstly that pic he doesn't look as bad as he did in the Machinist. And secondly I am sure he had the right people helping him drop the weight.

I agree with ChinoMoreno... a man worth this much money wouldn't be dropping weight in an unhealthy manner... he has enough money to pay 1st class nutritionists to make sure he stays healthy enough.

Otherwise, who are we to say it's going to far? It's his body. He's done it before. He obviously knows what he's doing.

Skellington, consider yourself lucky. I haven't liked a Christian Bale movie since '06. Which sucks because like I said, he's my favorite actor. But, irregardless of which of his movies we personally like or dislike, the guy has made some awesome movies, I think we all can agree on that, in his career there is something for practically everyone to appreciate. So I can handle this "slump" and am confident he'll get back to making movies that appeal to me pretty soon.

Hey if the real guy was skinny why wouldnt the actor be skinny? A skinny drug addict shouldnt look like Bruce Wayne.

If it means he is becoming an actor again then Im all for it. Termninator Salvation was just one movie, but I felt it kinda ruined his credibility as a serious actor.

Firstly, I'll be on set of this film tomorrow. Secondly, do you guys honestly believe Bale didn't lose weight in the safest way possible? I'm sure he had nutritionists and doctors to help and guide him along the way.

Christian Bale takes his work VERY seriously. And he's my favorite actor so I'm not going to argue his tactics. But, I can definitely understand if people are concerned about his health. To me, it doesn't look as extreme as his weight loss for The Machinist and I would think he would have learned a thing or two about how to properly lose and regain the weight so this time around it should be easier and not as bad for his health. But, obviously, I wouldn't want anything bad to happen to

As for him being a method actor, I don't mind it. Some people seem to thumb their nose at the idea. But, Christian Bale says that if there are avenues, why not pursue them, even if it doesn't seem completely necessary. The guy is really concerned with giving his all.

But, for the record, I don't think Omar is saying that method acting is bad, just in this particular situation.

Personally, I would rather Christian Bale switch roles with Di Caprio in Inception. I would like to see Bale in another non-Batman Christopher Nolan movie since The Prestige was very good. And Di Caprio could have played this drug addict guy and wouldn't have had to lose much weight since he's thin already. And it would have reunited him with his Departed and Basketball Diaries co-star, Mark Wahlberg. So everybody wins.

Bale also dropped a bunch of weight for RESCUE DAWN. Making this the third time he's got really skinny.

I love Bale too, but I am convinced he's going off the deep end.

I love Bale but this is seriously dangerous to drop weight like this. Method acting aside, it should never put your life in danger.
