D23: Del Toro does Disney
[Ed. note: Jenna Busch is at Disney's D23 conference and is filing reports throughout the weekend.]
It was announced today at Disney's D23 Expo that they are forming a brand new production label called “Disney Double Dare You”. And at the helm? My all time favorite huggable film maker and creator of creepy things, Guillermo del Toro! (He actually did hug me once. Coolest hug EVER!) DDDY will be creating “new animated films full of chills and thrills for audiences of all ages,” Disney Studios Chairman Dick Cook said. The first project with the new label will be TROLLHUNTERS, an original story by Del Toro. Because he doesn't have enough to do. The man is practically retired, sitting around in his slippers and bathrobe. Huh.
Guillermo is busy making the HOBBIT films in New Zealand right now, but he sent a taped message. “As a director, I love to take audiences into fantastic new worlds and provide them with some anxious moments in the process. It is part of the Disney cannon to create thrilling, unforgettable moments and villains in all their classic film. It is my privilege for DDDY to continue this tradition.” Del Toro cannot mess anything up as far as I'm concerned, and I'll even buy “scary animated flick” if he does it.
