Damnit Chloe! The 24 movie script gets shot down

01.03.2011

Bad news for all us 24 fans dissatisfied by the series' finale, and hoping for redemption in the promised feature film. Fox has shot down the latest script for the project written by State of Play's Billy Ray. No word on what exactly they disapproved of, but perhaps there weren't enough unnecessary subplots for them.

Talking to EW, exec producer Howard Gordon says all hope isn't lost. “As far as I know, it is in suspended animation, There is talk about re-approaching it. I understand (director/producer) Tony Scott is meeting with Kiefer to talk about ideas. People are still talking about it.”

People are still talking about it? Good, you idiots. How hard is it to make a 24 movie? I mean seriously. You already did it once with 24 Redemption, which was surprisingly well done, and you have one of the country's favorite action heroes of all time in the lead role. How can you f*ck that up?

My biggest question is whether the movie would be in real time, and I supposed it would kind of have to be to maintain the series' tradition. That could work, but it's going to be one hell of a lot to cram into two hours to live up to the levels of absurdity we've seen from 24 in years past.

I, for one, always believed the show should end with the ever-immortal Jack Bauer making the final sacrifice for his country. I think that would have made for great television, but greedy as they were, Fox killed that idea to make way for a film. Which now might not even get made. Great job guys, really.

Extra Tidbit: Favorite season? Hard to beat one for me. Though 2, 3 and 5 were great as well.

Just to clarify.

Kiefer has stated on numerous occasions that the movie will be a "representation of a 24 hour period".

So no it will not be done in real-time, but it will take course over the space of a day, much like Die Hard with a Vengeance or something.

24: Redemption was seriously well done?
Compared to what Alvin and the Chipmunks 2: The Squeakquel?

24 turned into a fucking soap opera a long time ago. Just let that ship sail it's course, right up Brian Grazer's asshole.

season 3 was the best. The one where Chase's hand gets cut off to defuse the bomb in the finale

The movie version should be much better than the 2-hour of 24: Redemption. As for extra tidbit, I think season 1 was very fresh and groundbreaking for TV series to be in "real-time" in each episode. Best season: 1,2,3 and 7.

"The only reason that you're conscious right now is because I don't want to carry you."

Fucking badass. I hope they make a GOOD 24 movie with lines like that or this:

"The only way you're going to die is if I kill you. Your bomb's not going off."

It shouldn't be that hard to make a good 24 movie. Considering that the main character is Jack Bauer and with all of the material you have from seasons 1-8.

State of Play was a good movie, so the 24 movie is in good hands and I doubt that Kiefer would give us a crappy 24 movie to all of us dedicated fans of the show.

As for favorite season, definitely season one. The finale was some of the best television I have ever seen. I mean Bauer thinking that his daughter is dead and then coming

I mean Bauer thinking that his daughter is dead and then coming out of the van shooting everyone in sight and thinking that the chaos is finally over, only to have his wife get killed and for him to breakdown in the last couple of minutes repeatedly saying "I'm sorry" while holding his wife.

This Is Good News

Believe it or not, this is good news. I hate 20th Century Fox, the ruin all of their movies. The X-Files: I Want to Believe was terrrible. The X-Men movies are going down the drain. They continue to have flop after flop.....Gulliver's Travels anyone? So I'm ok with them turning down a script that they don't feel does the show justice. It needs to be made soon, but I would rather it be done right rather than rushed.

Calling Jack Bauer one of America's favorite action heroes is a bit of a stretch, considering how much controversy indirectly surrounds his torturing and killing of terrorists. I'll give you Jaosn Bourne, or Rambo, or whomever. But Bauer is more divisive than most. The U.S. government even developed policies under the Bush administration based on episodes of "24." Does that make it a bad show? Not back when I was watching in around seasons 2 and 3, but it does make it scarier.

Meh, the show was ok. Do we really need another serious, handy cam shot, quasi-realistic espionage movie about a government agent who doesn't play by the rules? I'd rather see a Chuck movie or a Bond movie with Q Industries before watching Kiefer yelling into a cell phone about how the CTU isn't doing enough.

As well as seasons 2,3,and 5 I thought season 7 with Tony as the villian was a very good season. As for the movie, I could give a shit frankly season 8 left with me with such a foul taste in my mouth.
