Brie Larson The Glass Castle Woody Harrelson

Based on the memoir by Jeannette Walls, THE GLASS CASTLE tells the story of Jeannette's (Brie Larson) unconventional upbringing by her father, Rex (Woody Harrelson), and mother, Rose Mary (Naomi Watts). The dysfunctional family are constantly on the move thanks to Rex’s inability to find a stable job, as well as his drinking problems, and Jeanette escapes to New York City in an attempt to live a stable life. Sounds like it could easily be a recipe for something overly sappy, but thanks to the talent of its cast and director Destin Daniel Cretton, the first trailer for THE GLASS CASTLE looks extremely promising.

"You were born to change the world, not just add to the noise."

Destin Daniel Cretton hasn't directed a film since SHORT TERM 12, so it's great to see him back at work, particularly as THE GLASS CASTLE finds him reuniting with Brie Larson once again. Although Larson was certainly known to audiences thanks to appearances in movies like SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD and 21 JUMP STREET, Cretton's 2013 film definitely helped to launch her career in a big way. Since SHORT TERM 12, Brie Larson has won an Academy Award for ROOM, tackled with giant monsters in KONG: SKULL ISLAND and snagged the role of Carol Danvers in Marvel's upcoming CAPTAIN MARVEL.

The official synopsis for THE GLASS CASTLE:

Chronicling the adventures of an eccentric, resilient and tight-knit family, THE GLASS CASTLE is a remarkable story of unconditional love. Oscar® winner Brie Larson brings Jeannette Walls’s best-selling memoir to life as a young woman who, influenced by the joyfully wild nature of her deeply dysfunctional father (Woody Harrelson), found the fiery determination to carve out a successful life on her own terms.

THE GLASS CASTLE will open in theaters on August 11, 2017.
