Academy Award nominee Eric Roberts will star in The Human Centipede 3 (Final Sequence)

05.29.2013

I went through a period with movies where I wanted to see the most insane limits a movie could take me in terms of gore, violence, and good taste. I am still all for pushing envelopes with cinema, but sometimes there are movies made that just go to a bad place for the sake of going there with no artistic merit. THE HUMAN CENTIPEDE is one of those movies.

I will admit I watched both of THE HUMAN CENTIPEDE movies and still wish I hadn't. To start with, they aren't very good movies in any genre. The fact that THE HUMAN CENTIPEDE 3 (FULL SEQUENCE) is even coming boggles my mind. The fact they got any one willing to have their name on the poster is baffling. Even if that person is Eric Roberts.

Despite being an Academy Award nominee for RUNAWAY TRAIN, appearing in THE DARK KNIGHT, and starring in one of my guilty pleasures (BEST OF THE BEST), Roberts is not exactly a superstar Hollywood actor. Roberts is firmly on the B-list, maybe even C-list, and stars in a constant assault of shitty Redbox movies. He is practically Asylum territory these days, so his name linked with THE HUMAN CENTIPEDE 3 (FULL SEQUENCE) doesn't shock me. Hell, even Nicolas Cage starring in this wouldn't shock me.

THE HUMAN CENTIPEDE 3 (FULL SEQUENCE) will take the ass-to-mouth horror up to 500 individuals, so just imagine how f*cked up that is going to look on screen. Roberts will appear with Tommy Lister, Robert LaSardo, Dieter Laser, Laurence R. Harvey, and Bree Olson for writer/director Tom Six. The movie currently has no release date.

Look at the dude's IMDB page, he has over 50 movies in production or finished coming out over the next two years. He will star in anything that gives him a paycheck!

I still find it kinda hard to believe he found his way into The Dark Knight.

There's good horror, bad horror, garbage, and then this. And for all the right reasons, this series should die. That is all.

It should have it's own category. Tom Six bought a great idea to the screen and realized his vision. Or is this to exploitive for you? I don't get it. It had great acting, and a neat premise. The first one had a great vibe, and played on subtle intentions. The second played out like a Buttgereit movie from the 80's. Nekromantic or maybe Shramm. We have no idea where this one will go, and I like that.

@ evil eric : I'm not concerned about how exploitative it is because - let's be honest - almost every movie exploits something that could be deemed immoral. It's just the concept behind the film. I'd like to think cinema - as open as it is - still has some sort of boundary when it comes to what makes it into the mainstream. You have to be legitimately deranged to even conceptualize something like this, let alone film it. It just bothers me that it's openly supported, funded, and screened.

Again, I'm no saint and I don't wear a white hat. I get that violent, sex-filled films have made it to the mainstream. But this is just vile and difficult to digest. That's why I hate some of Rob Zombie's works as well. There's gore, there's violence, there's horror..and I can appreciate all of that in cinema and on TV, but Rob films shit that you know needs to stem from a sick, depressed mind. That bothers me and I guess I'll always refuse to support something like that.

Yeah I saw them both. I stand by my opinion that the first one had potential, if only for the talent the lead actor had. The second one was just a goofball shithouse, and because it was in black and white, I was able to watch the onscreen gore a little easier. I still say the most depraved film I ever saw was A Serbian Film. That was just an ugly, reprehensible movie with nothing to say that made me feel dead inside.

Eric Roberts... I'd say allowing himself to be covered in 'jizz' in "Wadzilla" a year after starring in The Expendables was the death-knell for his career.

Watched the 2nd on Netflix and found it better than the first, but I still think it went way too far in the disturbing gore department. I mean, I could only masturbate to about 20% of it.
