First trailer for Let Me In hints at great things

07.01.2010

I had a sneaking suspicion that Overture Films would get the trailer for LET ME IN, Matt Reeves' remake of LET THE RIGHT ONE IN, before THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE. I don't know for sure that we'll see one here in the United States but an international teaser for the film has popped up online.

My first impression is that the film actually looks really good. That's not to say I think it's a great trailer. Whatever music they've used in the background is repellent. And the editing is way too fast, even for a teaser trailer. But that said, Kodi Smit-McPhee looks pitch-perfect as Oskar stand-in, Owen. The film is beautifully shot and they've conveyed that with some of the footage here. I also love the morse code bit at the end. Despite our initial trepidation to this film, I think we're going to have a wholly original remake if that makes any sense.

Check out the trailer below and hopefully we'll be seeing even more from LET ME IN at Comic-Con...

I dont wanna be a negative nancy or anything, but this looks exactly the same as the original so why even bother trying to remake it if your not doing a single thing different... Gus Van Sant's Psycho is all i have to say

Might be OK, BUT....

...I don't think it will touch the original, which has become one of my all time faves.

Missed it

This was playing this last monday and I couldn't make it...Kinda bummed but it looks exactly the same. Shot for shot. Which is good for the average American who can't read fast enough to keep up with subtitles.

While admittedly...

The remake is completely unnecessary, there are few that aren't. I suppose they do it solely for the jackasses that are too lazy or stupid to watch a subtitled film... However, I feel this has the potential to be one of the best remakes in a long time. They didn't go out and pick big recognizable names who couldn't act their way out of a paper bag. They took real solid actors with some great performances under their belts. Not to mention the fact Matt Reeves, like Cloverfield or not, was

He took a film idea that has been done to death, and did it in such a way that no one had thought to do before. I'm not gonna say this will be a good film, because I've seen great trailers churn out horrible films and vice versa... but for now, I have high hopes for this one.

It's not about being lazy or stupid, I watched it with the subtitle on Blu-Ray, and they were all wrong in most places, so I wouldn't mind an Americanized version of this movie.

Freddy's right - one of the problems with the original is that they completely messed up the English subtitles.

fully agree.

why? why did you have to remake it? the original was perfect. everyone can read subtitles, can they? You can all have it dubbed if you're all too lazy to read small printed letters at the bottom of the screen. For heaven's sake, why?

Seriously? Are you just being theatrical, or do you really not understand the concept of monetizing people's laziness. Sure, the studios could hire you to personally berate people for their laziness, but I don't think that would really fill seats for a nationwide encore screening of Let the Right One In. On the other hand, they simply have to replicate the film in English with competent actors and a proficient director, and you have a low risk, high return project. That's a silver bullet

That's a silver bullet business plan, which producers kill for. After all, every time you watch a movie, you are watching an executed business plan.

I know there's a lot of fanboy crybabyism on this site - but seriously, I don't get how people like you don't understand what motivates the financial forces behind most movies - including the ones you love the most. It's as if you think the industry is standing around thinking of ways to frustrate or satisfy you, personally.

Not too shabby

The little boy almost looks identical to the one from the original. I enjoyed his work in the ROAD as well. I'll keep my mind open for this one. It doesn't look cheesy to me.

I'm in. I had a good feeling about this for some reason to begin with and the trailer solidifies that it's staying close to it's roots. Yeah, the music is shit. But once we see a clean US theatrical trailer, I feel all will be well. And as much as I hated Kodi Smit-McPhee in The Road, he looks perfect for Oskar.

I love Let the Right One In. I'm so mad that they've remade this movie that I refuse to even acknowledge and watch the trailer. I don't care if it ends up being a good movie because the original will with out a doubt in my mind be superior. I rather just go and re-watch the original whenever I want than have go and watch a movie that was only made to cash in on American audiences who are younger and don't like to read subtitles.

I loved Let The Right One In. It was beautifully shot and you could actually feel the connection with the characters unlike Twilight. That said I was strongly against this film but from the teaser it seems they got the atmosphere right. Plus the scenes look almost exactly the same as in the original. The tunnel scene I must admit looks done BETTER

not for nothing barryallen, but foreign studios aren't philanthropic organizations. If you want to place blame, lay it at the feet of the American moviegoing public. Studios make garbage because Americans keep coming back for more.

Didn't really like Let the Right One In

It was intermittently dull and ridiculous. A deadly serious version of 'Twilight' that was no less annoying.

The remake doesn't look like it will be any better.

Well, they already fucked up on the marketing...

The content of the trailer looks like it has potential, but the trailer itself is a piece of shit.

Big F*ckin' Deal

Another remake of a film that doesn't need one. This just makes me feel like the rest of the world thinks Americans are too stupid to read subtitles, so we have to remake everything instead. WTF is going on? The state of Hollywood is taking a nosedive into the shitter all because most movie-goers are morons who will still plunk down $12 for Fast & Furious sequels. Let's demand better schmoes! Boycott the movie theatres!

I'm sold. I loved the story and this looks to be nothing more than a complimenting companion piece to both the book and the original film. It's an incredible story, and I'm glad it is getting a wider exposure, remake or not.

WOW!

For just a teaser I am very impressed! By those clips it seems like the movie will be a lot more true to the book than the international movie. I did loved the book and the movie Let The Right One In, and I am more than excited to see this adaptation.

Can we root out the trolls here?

And as for the trailer, seeing as it looks almost exactly like the original just through the trailer, it'll almost definitely be a really good movie. However, in that same case, being the same loses the originality... which I was kind of hoping for here above all other things. I thought from that interview with the director a few months ago that it was, at least, gonna feel a little more... unique...

On the fence....

It does look amazing (minus the shitty choice in trailer music) in the sense that Chloe and Kodi look terrific in their parts. If it wasn't for the amazing acting talent, I wouldn't give two shits about the remake.

i dont understand...

it literally looks like they just recreated every scene shot for shot... whats the point? as i director i feel like this would be the most boring job ever because even if you really enjoy the swedish film and find excitement in recreating it, its not like you are really doing ANYTHING
why spend all the money just to have the same footage?

Unnecessary

Much as I like the casting of Chloe Moretz as Abby. This remake is unnecessary. :( It will make $$$ though and that's the whole point.

At least it does look good from the trailer.

This movie was already made and better made at that. Americans can read subtitles. At least wait until this actually might need to be updated for a modern audience this is only 4 years young!

It's cultural facism. If a movie isn't made in America's image it's not worth seeing? Now i know you guys don't believe that so why do the studios?

I'm making a point not to see this one.

I completely agree. Unfortunately, there are a lot of small-minded film goers out there. I have friends that will not watch a movie with subtitles no matter what. Same guys won't watch any movie in Black & White. These guys bitched endlessly about the beginning of Casino Royale. And the studios know they can make money by taking a good foreign film and remaking it.

"Dinner for Schmucks" is the same thing (remake of a french film 'Le Diner des Cons' or "The Dinner Game" as it was released

I really don't think this will do well. It is a completely different type of Vampire flick. It's not quite horror but its not glittery half naked men either.

After seeing the original I thought it was a great movie but when I heard it was getting an American remake I did not know how Hollywood would americanize it as there are no action scenes and its really about these two kids.
