Morgan Freeman has signed on to co-star with Bruce Willis in the upcoming DC Comics adaptation RED. Freeman would star as an assassin hired to kill a former CIA-agent now living comfortably in retirement. It sounds something like A HISTORY OF VIOLENCE, which oddly enough, was also based on a comic by John Wagner. What makes RED interesting though (at least from a behind-the-scenes perspective) is that it's a DC property that won't be made at Warner Bros.

RED is set up at Summit Entertainment and it's an encouraging sign that WB won't slow down the production of all DC-owned properties. While surely all the major superheroes will be going through Warners, it's nice to see some of the smaller projects find life elsewhere. Erich and Jon Hoeber, who wrote BATTLESHIP for Peter Berg, are currently working on the script.

Extra Tidbit: RED was only a three-issue miniseries.

I really hope they expand on the three-issue miniseries, because... it hardly has any plot at all. Just a bald guy killing a LOT of people.

(and I'm a huge Warren Ellis fan, by the way)
