Get Dafoe to Mars

Willem Dafoe has gone green before, but now he’ll be wearing the color on another world.

The furrowed veteran has joined Disney’s giant space epic JOHN CARTER OF MARS, co-starring with the WOLVERINE duo of Taylor “Gambit” Kitsch and Lynn “Silver Fox” Collins.

Dafoe will play Tars Tarkas, one of the planet’s warrior natives called Tharks. And since these creatures are huge green four-armed bipeds, it should be interesting to see how in the name of Edgar Rice Burroughs they’re gonna pull that one off (I’d guess more “performance capture” than prosthetics). Dafoe’s alien-esque visage should at least get them started in the right direction.

Pixar guy Andrew Stanton (WALL-E) is bringing the classic sci-fi novel to life, obviously with the assistance of many overworked CPUs. The story follows a war veteran named John Carter as he’s suddenly transported to the red planet and thrust into a world of beastly plants, hulking four-armed brutes and one royal hottie.
