HBO programming president says Deadwood movie "is going to happen"

Back in August, we brought you word that "very preliminary conversations" had begun between HBO and series creator David Milch about possibly doing a Deadwood movie, and while speaking with TV Line, programming president Michael Lombardo said he's given Milch the green light to resurrect the Western in the form of a television film.

David has our commitment that we are going to do it. He pitched what he thought generally the storyline would be — and knowing David, that could change. But it’s going to happen.

Lombardo says Milch feels he “has something left unsaid” with Deadwood, and although he is currently working on a different project, "the understanding is that when he is done with that he will turn his attention to [writing the] script" for the movie.

While scheduling is going to be a bitch, since most of the cast members are working on other things, Lombardo says Milch is confident he can make it work, and that “Some casts and creators form a bond that becomes relevant for the rest of their lives. This was a defining moment for a lot of them.” The planned television movie is obviously still a long way off from production, but I for one can't wait for the return of Deadwood.

I really thought this was a pipe dream. I never got around to watching the third season (maybe an episode or two), but it's the sort of show that should never be forgotten for what it did, and deserves a proper send-off with one of the best ensemble casts ever put on television.

One of my all time favorite shows, but the final episode sucked bad. An HBO movie could and should fix it.

This is great news. Deadwood and Carnivale are both absolutely terrific HBO shows that got canceled before they should have. If a movie or more seasons of either of these shows is ever possible, I'm behind it.

You can keep your Game of Thrones; I'll gladly take any form of Deadwood I can at this point. Great news.

I really do need to find some time to watch Deadwood. Only watched a couple of episodes here and there but never a full season nor the entire show.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! ill finally be able to watch Deadwood. I have this bizarre thing that I do. I don't commit to a show until its 3rd season usually simply because theres nothing worse than watching a show with no ending. I know its a little hypocritical, because if I don't watch it from the getgo, im part of the people who cause it to get cancelled. However, I don't have cable. I buy my movies and tv on blu ray or watch it on netflix.

On my list of shows to watch

I have heard nothing but great things about this show and the majority of the cast, especially McShane, are favorites of mine. I still have to watch this thing. Great news for lovers of this show.
