Back in August, we brought you word that "very preliminary conversations" had begun between HBO and series creator David Milch about possibly doing a Deadwood movie, and while speaking with TV Line, programming president Michael Lombardo said he's given Milch the green light to resurrect the Western in the form of a television film.

David has our commitment that we are going to do it. He pitched what he thought generally the storyline would be — and knowing David, that could change. But it’s going to happen.

Lombardo says Milch feels he “has something left unsaid” with Deadwood, and although he is currently working on a different project, "the understanding is that when he is done with that he will turn his attention to [writing the] script" for the movie.

While scheduling is going to be a bitch, since most of the cast members are working on other things, Lombardo says Milch is confident he can make it work, and that “Some casts and creators form a bond that becomes relevant for the rest of their lives. This was a defining moment for a lot of them.” The planned television movie is obviously still a long way off from production, but I for one can't wait for the return of Deadwood.
